Black-owned business owners and supporters protested this week in Amherst for nearly ten minutes outside the Town council meeting in a final appeal for money from remaining ARPA funds. Town Manager Paul Bockelman says the remaining 3.8 million will be divvied up between the Bangs Community Center, $1 million for solar canopies at Fort River School — and $300,000 for roads and sidewalks, a decision that was made after getting input from the community and councilors. The Black Business Association of Amherst Area contents black businesses need to receive resources similar to how the Amherst Business Improvement District and Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce are supported and also called for Bockelman’s resignation due to “anti-Black practices.
