U2 denies album delay

A U2 spokesperson has shut down rumors suggesting the rockers have postponed the release of their new album until 2015, insisting fans will be able to hear the new material as planned this summer.

Reports emerged last week stating the “Beautiful Day” hitmakers would be stalling the release of their latest studio project for a few months to allow them extra time to work with top songwriters/producers Ryan Tedder and Paul Epworth, while an accompanying tour that was provisionally set for September would also be pushed back to next year.

The news surfaced just weeks after drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. blamed the group’s work on Oscar-nominated Best Song “Ordinary Love” for holding up sessions for the follow-up to 2009’s “No Line on the Horizon.”

However, a representative for the band has now spoken out to dismiss the claims, telling Britain’s The Guardian newspaper, “U2’s album is planned for this year, (it) is still on track and touring plans haven’t been confirmed yet.”
