Nov. 2

1959: Game show contestant Charles Van Doren told a House panel that he had been given questions and answers in advance before appearing on the quiz show “Twenty-One” on NBC.

1963: The single “Be True to Your School” by the Beach Boys was released.

1968: The single “For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder was released.

1974: George Harrison went on his first tour in eight years. He was on the road in support of his “Dark Horse” album.

1979: Mick and Bianca Jagger divorced.

Actor David Schwimmer (“Friends”) is 47. Singer Alvin Chea of Take 6 is 46. Bassist Fieldy of Korn is 44. Singer-guitarist John Hampson of Nine Days is 42. Singer Timothy Christian Riley of Tony! Toni! Tone! is 40. Rapper Nelly is 39. Rapper Prodigy of Mobb Deep is 39. Actor Danny Cooksey (“Diff’rent Strokes”) is 38. Guitarist Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie is 38. Actor-singer Kendall Schmidt (“Big Time Rush”) is 23.

Nov. 3

1957: Two future No. 1 pop songs were released: “Great Balls Of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis and “At The Hop” by Danny and the Juniors.

1961: Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and Fred Rose became the first people to be elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

1972: James Taylor and Carly Simon got married at Taylor’s New York apartment. They announced their marriage that night at Taylor’s concert at Radio City Music Hall.

1975: “Good Morning America” premiered on ABC, with hosts David Hartman and Nancy Dussault.

1990: Minnie Pearl celebrated her 50th anniversary with the Grand Ole Opry. She received a congratulatory telegram from the White House.

1992: The Grateful Dead announced they would break tradition and would not perform a New Year’s Eve concert in the San Francisco Bay area.

Today’s Birthdays: Actress Peggy McCay (“Days of Our Lives”) is 86. Actor-dancer Ken Berry (“Mayberry R.F.D.”; “Mama’s Family”) is 80. Actor-radio personality Shadoe Stevens is 67. Actress-comedian Roseanne Barr is 61. Kathy Kinney (“The Drew Carey Show”) is 60. Actress Kate Capshaw is 60. Comedian Dennis Miller is 60. Singer Adam Ant is 59. Actor Dolph Lundgren (“Rocky IV”) is 56.

Michael Jackson’s hometown plans three-day birthday bash

Testimony from AEG Live executive Paul Gongaware on his interactions with Jackson and his negotiations with the singer’s doctor dominated the fifth week of a civil case against the company filed by the superstar’s mother, Katherine. On Tuesday May 28, 2013, Gongaware reluctantly acknowledged that he negotiated the $150,000 per month rate that Jackson’s doctor expected to be paid to serve on the “This Is It” tour.

The King of Pop's boyhood home of Gary, Indiana will celebrate this weekend with the Michael Jackson Tribute Festival of the Arts.
