In 1969, the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair opened in upstate New York. During the three days from Aug. 15-18, dozens of acts  – including The Who, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Joan Baez – performed before the crowd that had gathered on Max Yasgur’s 600-acre farm.
