R.E.M. are making an unofficial comeback with a special Record Store Day vinyl release of acoustic material.
“Unplugged: The Complete 1991 And 2001 Sessions” is a four-album collection of all the band’s MTV Unplugged recordings, and features fan favorites that didn’t actually air on television – and were never released.
Tracks include the hits “Radio Song,” “Losing My Religion,” “Pop Song 89,” “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” and “The One I Love” and a cover of The Troggs’ “Love is All Around.”
R.E.M. are the only band to perform on two MTV Unplugged specials – one in 1991 and the other a decade later in 2001.
The split group’s bassist Mike Mills will be signing copies of the new album at the Bull Moose store in Scarborough, Maine On Record Store Day.
The annual Record Store Day was created to give independent stores a boost.
“R.E.M.’s Unplugged: The Complete 1991 And 2001 Sessions” will be released on CD in May.
The group split in 2011.
