Foo Fighters return from hiatus for new shows, album

Rockers the Foo Fighters will end their year-long concert hiatus by performing live in Mexico City on Dec. 13.

Frontman Dave Grohl had to assure fans the band was not splitting up after onstage remarks he made at some of the group’s final world tour shows left devotees fearing the worst, but, after the success of his debut as a documentary maker and drummer Taylor Hawkins’ movie debut as Iggy Pop in CBGB, it appears the band is ready to hit the stage again.

They’ll join The National for a gig at the 55,000-seat capacity Foro Sol stadium in December.

The Foo Fighters last performed together in September, 2012, at the Global Festival in New York, but several members of the band were part of Grohl’s star-studded spin-off act Sound City Players, who formed for a handful of shows earlier this year to promote the release of his Sound City movie.

Grohl recently confirmed reports suggesting Foo Fighters were working on a new album, which the band hoped to release in 2014.

Michael Jackson’s hometown plans three-day birthday bash

FILE - In this March 5, 2009 file photo, Michael Jackson is shown at a press conference in London. Testimony from AEG Live executive Paul Gongaware on his interactions with Jackson and his negotiations with the singer’s doctor dominated the fifth week of a civil case against the company filed by the superstar’s mother, Katherine. On Tuesday May 28, 2013, Gongaware reluctantly acknowledged that he negotiated the $150,000 per month rate that Jackson’s doctor expected to be paid to serve on the “This Is It” tour.

The King of Pop's boyhood home of Gary, Indiana will celebrate this weekend with the Michael Jackson Tribute Festival of the Arts.
