This Austin, TX band’s latest album The Stand Ins has virtually no choruses which bucks the motif of the prototypical song structure of a rock song since rock songs came into being. However, these songs are infectious because of their intelligently poetic lyrics. If you tune out and listen to the album as background music, it’s enjoyable enough, but when you tune in to listen to what singer songwriter, Will Sheff, is singing, he’ll pull you straight down into the (Okkervil) River.
